P7 Diocesan Visit to Lough Derg and Preparation for Confirmation

1st Apr 2026

Primary 7 pupils recently took part in a Diocesan educational visit to Lough Derg, giving them a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of faith and reflection. The visit formed an important part of their spiritual journey and allowed pupils to experience one of Ireland’s most significant pilgrimage sites in a meaningful and age-appropriate way.

Throughout the visit, pupils engaged respectfully in prayer, reflection, and discussion, helping them to better understand themes of commitment, faith, and community. Pupils now have a deeper understanding of the Fruits and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. The experience encouraged thoughtful conversations back in school and supported their personal and spiritual development. We extend our sincere thanks to Father Gallagher and Canon McGahon for generously funding the cost of the school buses. Their support made the trip possible.

Alongside this, P7 pupils continue their ongoing preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. As part of this journey, pupils made their Confirmation pledge at St. Mary’s Chapel during one of our monthly school Masses, a significant and prayerful milestone in their preparation. Through classroom-based learning, prayer services, and reflective activities, pupils are exploring the role of the Holy Spirit, the responsibilities of being a confirmed member of the Church, and how they can live out their faith in their everyday lives.

We are very proud of the maturity, reverence, and commitment shown by the pupils as they continue on this important stage of their faith journey.
