SCHOOL CLOSING TODAY AT 12 NOON - PLEASE PICK UP YOUR CHILD/CHILDREN FROM 11.45 AM
3rd Oct 2025
Dear Parents we have received a notification at 8.56am from the Education Authority that ALL SCHOOL IN THE COUNTIES LISTED BELOW MUST CLOSE AT 12NOON.  PLEASE PICK UP YOUR CHILD/CHILDREN FROM 11.45AM.  Children will receive snack as normal but there will be no dinners today.  Please see the letter from EA below and take care everyone and stay safe in these conditions.  Emergency Early School Closure - Storm Amy Schools Closures Counties Antrim, Londonderry, Tyrone and Fermanagh.  Last night the Met Office issued an Amber weather alert, which covers parts of Northern Ireland from 3pm on Friday until 8pm and is warning of "spell of damaging winds on Friday late afternoon and evening".  Following further confirmation from the Met Office this morning that this upgraded warning will remain in place today I am writing to inform you that all schools located in the areas affected by the amber warning in Northern Ireland are required to close at 12 midday today, Friday 03 October 2025, due to severe weather conditions.  The alert covers the western half of Northern Ireland - counties Antrim, Londonderry, Tyrone and Fermanagh. It has cited the potential for power cuts and damage to buildings, including a risk of injuries from flying debris.  I understand this will impact on the work of schools but the decision has been taken to avoid any potential risk to life for children, young people and staff.  I would ask that you communicate this decision to parents as soon as practicably possible through your school channels.  Your support is appreciated.  Regards,  Richard Pengelly EA Chief Executive
